Went walking with Bill at Delta Ponds yesterday while our Prius was getting an oil change. It was a dim day, sky sagging with the predicted afternoon rain. Good day for ducks, and they were out on the pond, along with coots and egrets and herons. At the end of the walk, we saw some buffleheads, with their bright white cheeks. One part of the trail was covered with the bright green leaves of alder trees, which do not change color before they drop. A cluster of seed pods waited for sun and wind to move them.
I love the subtle colors of the Northwest on a dim day, the pale green mosses and brown seed pods. By the end of the walk the sky was lightening. We enjoyed a view of the hills and watched the golden leaves brighten in the sun.
