Road Trip Day 1

We are on the road! Maybe for the last time driving–we’ll see.
First day was very fine. We left Eugene in the morning and arrived in Boise Idaho just in time to check in, have dinner, and take a quick look around Boise.

First stop was the familiar Sahalie Falls. Lots of memories there, including visiting with my daughter Teresa on my first-ever visit to the Pacific Northwest in 1998.

When we stopped in July two summers ago, firefighters were lined up at the restroom. We were on our way to a house we’d rented near Redmond to watch the eclipse. As we continued on through Sisters, the smoke from a nearby forest fire was so thick that everything was drained of color.

Today the air is clear and fresh. Pine smell almost as strong as a bathroom recently cleaned with a pine-scented product. The smell inside the actual bathroom isn’t as pleasant, but I’ve experienced worse.

As we proceeded through Sisters today the scene was very different. The beautiful Sisters mountains were in full view in sun-drenched color. But we often saw the damage the fires caused.

What’s a summer road trip without a traffic jam or two? Note the legs hanging out of the van. Whole bodies emerged and disappeared from that window while we waited, but it wasn’t really very long. Summer is construction season.

We only had time for a brew pub dinner and a twilight drive around Boise.

Old folks have to get their rest!
